Certificate Management

Here is a tutorial of certificate management. We'll teach you how to export your certificate and private key from your browser and how to transform certificate format for more usage.

When you apply for your certificate, the private key is stored in encrypted form on your browser. After downloading the certificate, the private key is added with the certificate. We recommend that you copy your certificate and private key to removable media which should be kept in safe.

 

Exporting the digital certificate with the private key from IE:

  • Open the IE browser, choice the "Tools" menu, click "Internet Options".
  • Click the "Content" tab, then choose "Certificates".
  • Click your certificate that you want to export.
  • Click the "Export" button
  • Click "Next" in the "Export Wizard" window
  • Select "Export private key". Click "Next"
  • Make sure "Personal Information Exchange -PKCS#12" is checked, and also the "Enable strong protection".
    The "Delete private key if successful" must be unchecked. The "Include all certificate in path" button should be unchecked, too. Click "Next".
  • Type the passphrase(twice) that you use to protect your private key. We recommend you choice 12 characters pass phrase. Click "Next".
  • Type the name of the file where you want to store your certificate. Click "Next".
  • Click "Finish"

 

Exporting the digital certificate with the private key from Netscape

  • Click on the "options" icon in the "tools" menu
  • large dialog window opens. Choose "Manage certificate" under "Advance". If the certificate does not appear here, then you do not have the corresponding private key.
  • Click the name of the certificate you want to export, then click the "Backup" button.
  • Type the name of the file into which you want to save your certificate and private key. Typically, the file has a ".p12" extension.
  • Type the password to access your Netscape database. (Note: If you forget this password, the key is lost.)
  • Type passphrase(twice) to protect your private key. We recommend you choice 8 characters pass phrase.
  • At this point, you have successfully exported your key pair to the file.

 

 

Exporting the digital certificate with the private key from Mozilla

  • Select "Tools" and click "Options".
  • A large dialog window opens. Choose "Advance" and " View Certificate"
  • Click the name of the certificate you want to export, then click the "Backup" button.
  • Type the name of the file into which you wish to save your certificate. Click "Save"
  • Type the name of the file into which you want to save your certificate and private key. Typically, the file has a ".p12" extension.
  • Type the passphrase (twice) that you use to protect your private key. We recommend you choice 8 characters pass phrase. Click "OK".
  • At this point, you have successfully exported your key pair to the file.
